Trinity Broadcasting Network Takes Hope and Healing to Women in Prison

LOS ANGELES (May 16, 2012) — As America’s prison population has burgeoned to over two million adults, one of the most dire realities is the dramatic increase in the women among that number. Currently there are over 115,000 women incarcerated in state and federal prisons, and over the past 35 years the number of women serving time in the nation’s correctional facilities has increased by an astounding 832 percent. Even more alarming is the fact that nearly two-thirds of women in prison today are mothers.

When you are the acknowledged leader in your field, you try a little harder, dig a little deeper. That’s been standard operating procedure over the past 38 years at Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the world’s largest religious network and America’s most-watched faith channel.

When founders Paul and Jan Crouch launched TBN back in 1973 with one low-power UHF station—and a whole lot of vision—they had little idea that the network would one day span the globe with 24-hour faith and family-friendly television. "What we did know was that we were trail-blazers of sorts for faith-based broadcasting," said Paul Crouch, "and we felt a responsibility to use all the resources at our command to bring our growing audience the very best in inspirational, religious, and family programming."

Thoughtful planning, cutting-edge technology, and bold innovation continue to make TBN the standard-bearer in faith and family broadcasting. Today, as the sixth largest broadcast group in the nation (Broadcasting and Cable 2010 study), TBN reaches every major continent via 78 satellites and more than 18,000 television and cable affiliates worldwide. In the United States, TBN is available to 92 percent of the total households, and globally its estimated potential reach approaches one billion viewers.

For fresh and innovative programming, no channel tops TBN, bringing viewers such award-winning shows as Praise the Lord (a staple of Christian broadcasting since the 1970s), the best in church and ministry programs, and such impacting documentary and information programs as Travel the Road and Drive Through History.

And don’t forget movies! From One Night With the King, starring screen legends Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif, to inspirational classics like China Cry and Carman: The Champion and end-times thrillers like The Omega Code and Megiddo, no faith-and-family channel offers more exclusive and original feature-length films for the whole family than TBN.

TBN is also the faith-based leader in high-definition programming. "Because high-definition is the future of television, we committed from the start to make sure TBN stays ahead of the curve in this crucial broadcast technology," said Paul Crouch Jr., TBN’s Chief of Staff. "Our state-of-the-art HD studio in Costa Mesa, California was a first for inspirational broadcasters. With three more HD studios in New York, Dallas, and Nashville, and several more on the drawing board, TBN is committed to staying on the cutting edge of broadcasting."

TBN continues to make faith a relevant and vital element in today’s media landscape. "Our commitment to providing the best in entertaining, uplifting, and thought-provoking programming has never been higher," said Paul Crouch Jr. "We take being the leader in faith and family-friendly programming very seriously. That’s been our mission for nearly four decades. Millions of viewers depend on that commitment."
